This thick ring is made of polished black stone and has a strange symbols engraved all over it. This ring grant immortality to the wearer, in a way of speaking. Firstly the wearer of the ring age at half rate and is reduced to 1 hit point if they would be killed by a death-effect.
More importantly, if the ring is worn and the wearer dies, they rises from the dead after 1 hour as per raise dead except they rise at 50% with no loss in levels. This effect also applies if the ring is placed on the finger of a fresh corpse. The wearer does not age from this point on. However if at any point the ring is removed, the wearer immediately dies. The ring cannot be removed unless the wearer is willing or if the wearer is tricked into removing it.
The ring will rise a creature from the dead even if their body is not fit to be raise dead. However it will not rebuild the wearer's body, leaving them conscious but unable to take any actions beside communication. Since the wearer does not age nor decay they tend to be trapped in a bad situation for a long time. If the wearer's body is completely destroyed or reduced to a skeleton, the ring ceases working and the wearer dies normally.
