Aspis Shield[edit]
A large domed shield, very protective, and easily customizable.
The Aspis is a large shield, about 3 feet in diameter, perfectly round and strongly domed. Very protective, the Aspis allows its wearer to cover the side of the body which carries the shield from the neck to the knee, allowing the arm (which carries the shield) as well as the shoulder to be tucked into the curved space of the shield. The Aspis is made of wood and the exterior part can be covered with a thin layer of copper, steel, or any other metallic material.
Shield | Cost | Shield Bonus | Maximum Dex Bonus | Armor Check Penalty | Arcane Spell Failure Chance | Speed | Weight | Hardness | HP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Wooden Aspis | 14 gp | +3 | - | -3 | 20 % | − | 12 lb | 5 | 10 |
Copper Covered Aspis | 28 gp | +3 | - | -3 | 25 % | − | 16 lb | 10 | 20 |
Steel Covered Aspis | 30 gp | +3 | - | -3 | 25 % | − | 18 lb | 10 | 20 |
Metal covered : You can cover the outside of the shield by any kind of metalic matter. In this case, the weight of the shield is 12 lb + 6 lb equivalent of steel (2/3 of wood for 1/3 of steel). For exemple, gold being twice heavier as steel, a Gold covered Aspis weights 12 lb of wood plus 6 lb x2 of metal (here gold), so it weight is 24 lb. The hardness of the Aspis become the hardness of the metal used and it has 10 HP plus 1/3 of HPs for one inch of metel used (rounded up). For example, Cold Iron has 30 HP per inch of metal. A Cold Iron covered Aspis shield has 10 HP plus 1/3 of 30 HP (of Cold Iron). So, it has 15 HP.
