Arachnaut[edit]

Gain spider-powers! Awesome! Gain awkward extra arms! Wait, what?

"OW! Something just bit me! Whoa, I feel weird..."

Creating an Arachnaut[edit]

Arachnaut can be either an acquired or inherited template which can be applied to any humanoid, monstrous humanoid, or giant, hereafter referred to as the "base creature." If the template is acquired, then usually the base creature is bitten by an extremely rare spider which has been altered by magic or other twisted force. The spider imparts spider-like powers to the base creature over the course of 24 hours, during which time the base creature is both sickened and fatigued as their body undergoes massive biological alterations.

Size and Type[edit]

Size remains unchanged. The creature's Type changes to Aberration, with the Augmented subtype for it's original type. Do not recalculate BAB, Saves, or skill points.

Hit Dice[edit]

Hit Dice remain unchanged. Do not recalculate hit points.

Speed[edit]

Increase the base creature's base land speed by 10 feet. The arachnaut also gains a climb speed equal to its base land speed.

Armor Class[edit]

The skin of an arachnaut toughens to resist damage, but not so much that it becomes noticeably different from others of its kind. The Arachnaut gains a Natural Armor Bonus of +1, and an additional +1 for every 5 HD it possesses.

Special Attacks[edit]

The Arachnaut may attack using all of their arms, though they take all usual penalties for doing so unless they take such feats as multiweapon fighting.

Special Qualities[edit]

Spider Sense (Ex): An arachnaut possesses a keen awareness of their surroundings, and can sense impending danger as a curious tingling in the back of their heads. This warning provides them with a +4 to Initiative checks. An arachnaut also may act during a surprise round when they normally would not be able to do so, but always go last during the surprise round regardless of their initiative roll.

Eight-limbed (Ex): An arachnaut gains two fully functional extra sets of arms under their original arms, bringing the total number of their arms and legs to eight. If the arachnaut had extra limbs from another source previously, then the arachnaut grows only enough extra arms to bring the total number of arms and legs to eight. If the arachnaut already possessed eight or more limbs, then no additional sets of arms are grown. Extra limbs gained after this template is applied are not affected by this limitation. If the original arms had a natural weapon (such as a claw or slam attack), the extra arms gain the natural weapon as well, qualifying the base creature for the multiattack feat (if it did not already qualify).

The arachnaut does not gain any more magic item slots than normal for the base creature.

Abilities[edit]

+2 Strength, -2 Charisma. Arachnauts are strong like spiders, but the extra arms are weird and off-putting to most.

Skills[edit]

The arachnaut gains a +4 inherent bonus to Balance, Climb, Jump and Use Rope checks, and can always take 10 on such checks.

Feats[edit]

An arachnaut gains the Spider-Fiend and Webspinner feats as bonus feats, even if they do not meet the prerequisites. Arachnauts can move freely across any web they created without penalty.
