Abyssalbred[edit]
Intelligent creatures who temporarily escaped the abyss.
Many creatures are doomed to wander the abyss in their afterlife. A few truly repent, and of those, even fewer get a second chance to make things better. Abyssalbred creatures know their time on the material plane is short lived, and in the beginning, are truly devoted to battling the sins of the world. But, like any creature, once back to life, the lure of evil may corrupt them again.
Creating an Abyssalbred[edit]
This is an inherited template that may be added to any creature that has an intelligence score of 3 or higher and may speak a language. Furthermore, this creature must be a creature that has gone to the abyss after it has died permanently. Furthermore, the creature must not have the abyssal template or gain it after gaining this template. This creature is hereafter referred to as the base creature.
Size and Type[edit]
If you are using the Book of Exalted Deeds, the type of the base creature changes to Deathless. Even if you use the Deathless type, Abyssalbred still have a constitution score, and have none of the granted immunities of the Deathless type.
If you are not using the Book of Exalted Deeds, the type does not change.
Hit Dice[edit]
Racial hit dice are recalculated, but use the higher dice of the original value
Speed[edit]
An abyssalbred creature of at least 10 Hit Dice grows bat wings that allows him to fly 30ft. with poor maneuverability.
Abilities[edit]
An abyssalbred creature loses all inherent and aging racial bonuses and penalties to ability scores. Abyssalbred creatures are as fit as they were in the prime of their life, but any wisdom gained has faded away from its time in the abyss.
Special Qualities[edit]
Tortured Soul (Ex): As a soul in the abyss, an abyssalbred has seen many wicked events and been subject to intense torture. His mind is weaker, but his body stronger. Abyssalbred have a +2 bonus to fortitude saves and a -2 penalty to will saves.
Damage Reduction (Su): Being a creature of the abyss, an abyssalbred gains damage reduction as a creature with the Fiendish Creature template.
Bound Soul (Ex): An abyssal creature changes its age to 0 years old when it acquires this template. It loses all aging categories, and instead, is brought back to the torments of the abyss after 10 years. Usually, chains will seemingly come from nowhere, and drag the soul back to the abyss, leaving the physical body behind.
Furthermore, Raise Dead and Reincarnate do no work on abyssalbred. To bring an abyssalbred back from the dead, Resurrection or True Resurrection must be used. If you are using the Deathless type, these spells do not restore the base creature to their original self, since their original self is permanently dead.
Not even a Wish or Miracle may bypass the restrictions of Bound Soul.
Environment[edit]
The majority, how few there are, exist on the material plane. They can be anywhere, fighting evil, or slowly falling back into it. Abyssalbred creatures have already lived their lives once, so if you come across one, it has a purpose or is looking for one.
Organization[edit]
It is uncommon for abyssalbred creatures to join organizations, and even rarer to form them.
