Variant Multiclass Skill Points
Introduction
In general it does not matter which class you select when you start out. Class features and abilities stack, and you get the benefits of all of your levels if you multiclass. But 1st level is treated preferentially for one thing, skill points. That means there is a difference between a Rogue/Warblade and a Warblade/Rogue in skill points only, which isn't at all fair or reasonable.
This variant rule is a minor numeric patch to correct this imbalance.
Rule Mechanics
When taking a second (or third, or fourth, etc.) base class, you may gain additional skill points. If the new class offers more skill points per level than your current class(es), you gain 3 times the difference between your new class and the class that grants the next highest amount of skill points in addition to normal skill points granted at this level.
You do not gain this benefit when selecting a prestige class of any sort.
Examples
A warblade normally gains 4 skill points per level. If he later took a level of ranger, he would gain an additional 6 skill points in addition to the normal ranger skill points, 3 times the difference between 6 and 4. If he later took a level of rogue he would gain another 6 additional skill points, 3 times the difference between 8 and 6 (since 6 is the next highest amount of class skill points among his classes). If he really felt like building a confused character and taking a level of wizard, he would gain no additional skill points since 2 skill points per level is not greater than the skill points granted by any of his other classes.
