Amongst the horde of mindless chickens blissfully unaware of their impending doom, one stands apart from the others. Its eyes seem to have a dull red glow behind them and it glares at you with malicious intent.
The lowest spawn of the demon lord Bookbakoook the Mother Clucker, demon chickens are nearly indistinguishable from normal chickens save for their dull red glowing eyes which shine with dull intellect, and trademark pitchfork which they manage to keep within their wing. The fiendish chicken species hates mankind for the wanton slaughter of chickenkind and their hearts are filled with throughs of brutal unforgiving revenge. They are used as Bookbakoook's basic grunt troops to invade the prime material, and to corrupt pre-existing farm chickens to turn to the dark meat of the force. Fortunately for mankind, farm chickens are pretty stupid, so demon chickens usually fail at making converts. Perhaps they get their revenge. though, in their terrible Death Curse.
Demon Chickens usually do not speak, but can speak Abyssal as well as the language of chickens and other domesticated birds.
Combat
Demon Chickens are surprisingly tough chickens who can take a lot of punishment, which is important because they do not possess great tactical cunning. They prefer to attack in numbers, flanking opponents and abusing their Swarm Attack when possible. When not an option, they move in with their trident and pecking, hoping to outlast the enemy through attrition.
Blood Taste (Ex): When demon chickens taste blood they go into a frenzy. Every time a demon chicken hits with a peck attack against the target of their hatred, they gain a cumulative +1 bonus to damage on all attacks. This lasts as long as the hatred does.
Death Curse (Su): If a demon chicken dies, its cursed blood spoils the surroundings. While harmless in small amounts, in places where a great number of demon chickens have perished, such as a farm, it may have dire consequences. If 100 demon chickens die in the same 100 feet radius over any period of time, then the area becomes cursed and all those within the area are subjected to a bestow curse effect for as long as they remain within the area, DC 17 Will save negates. The curse can be lifted by casting remove curse on the site of the deaths, and purifying it with 10 vials of holy water.
If the death count rises to 1000 or greater, the curse is doubled in effect, the DC rises to 27, and there is a chance that a gateway to the abyss may spontaneously form, allowing the armies of chickens through.
Demon Fork (Ex): All minions of Bookbakoook possess a special trident called a demon fork. It has the damage and reach of a +1 flaming trident of a creature one size catagory larger, and is a finessable weapon. In the hands of other creatures, they are simply small sized tridents. Demon Chickens somehow manipulate these weapons with their wings in spite of lacking hands, and can tuck it away hidden with a +20 search check to find when sheathed.
Hatred (Su): As a free action on its turn only, a demon chicken can declare hatred for a target. All attacks against that target deal an additional 2 points of damage per HD to the target. In addition, the demon chicken is always aware of the status of the target as if observed by deathwatch, regardless of distance. However, this does not work over planar boundries. Hatred lasts until the demon chicken chooses to declare hatred on another, ending the previous hatred.
Headless (Ex): Demon Chickens are hard to keep dead. They can live without their head for 1d10 days, though they are blind and they become mindless creatures during this time (rending them immune to mind-affecting effects). This renders them partly immune to the vorpal weapon enhancement... at least for a short time.
Swarm Attack (Ex): If 2 or more demon chickens are within a 10 foot square, they can briefly become like a swarm, gaining swarm traits and dealing 1d6 of damage per chicken in the swarm. The DC for the distraction is DC 17 and is Constitution based. They move as a group and this effectively takes up the actions of all demon chickens involved. Up to 16 chickens can fit inside a 10 foot square. At the end of their turn, they lose the swarm traits and return to being normal demon chickens.
