Havel's GreatshieldEdit

Havel's Greatshield
Price: 7,800 gp
Body Slot: Held
Caster Level: 11th
Aura: Moderate abjuration (DC 19)
Activation: Use-activated
Weight: 70 lb.

Bishop Havel, also known as Havel the Rock, left several relics behind within his clergy that saw wide use by his subordinates before being scattered across the remnants of the ancient kingdom. Along with his armor and ring, this monstrously heavy gear appeals to those who fancy themselves as being completely unstoppable in combat. Havel's greatshield uses the statistics of a tower shield, with a hardness of 10 and 70 hit points.

Havel's greatshield provides the following benefits when held, on top of its general protective capabilities:

  • Against arcane spells, you gain a +2 bonus to saving throws and spell dampening 2. This stacks with the bonuses from Havel's armor and the Dragon's Tooth.
  • You gain the Stability quality of the Shrekken Touched template.
  • Stone Armor (Su): Once per day as a full-round action, you can call upon the divine enchantment that is interwoven within the shield, allowing you to partake with the essence of earth and stone. For the duration of this ability, you gain 10 temporary hit points per character level and the Powerful Build feat, but you incur a -4 penalty to your Dexterity score and all your movement speeds are halved. The stone armor effect lasts for 1 minute or until all temporary hit points granted by the effect are gone. Any remaining temporary hit points disappear once the ability ends. If you have temporary hit points from multiple sources, the ones from this ability are deducted first.

Havel's greatshield may be magically enhanced as though it was a mundane shield. The benefits granted by the shield are equivalent to a +2 shield quality; as such, enhancing it further carries the commensurate cost. Adding a +1 enhancement costs the same as enhancing a +2 shield to +3, i.e. 5,000 gp. Enhancement bonus and qualities totalling no more than +8 can be added to the shield.

Havel's greatshield cannot be repaired with mundane tools, as it is made of stone. Repairing a damaged Havel's greatshield requires the aid of magic that mends equipment or creates or transforms stone, such as make whole, stone shape or transmute mud to rock. Repairing a Havel's greatshield without the aid of these things requires the broken stone pieces to be hewn anew, which requires a DC 35 Craft (stoneworking) check and 50 gp worth of material per point of damage needing to be restored.

Havel's greatshield can be crafted only from stone-type materials. As such, it can be made using thrudstone and other types of stone, but not adamantine or any other kind of metal. Due to being originally fashioned from stone, Havel's greatshield does not get any increase in its armor check penalty for being made from a special type of stone.

Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, righteous might, stoneskin, crafter must be a cleric with the Earth domain.
Cost to Create: 3,900 gp, 312 EXP, 8 days.
