Sword Student

A sword student is an investigator who places intense focus on her swordplay. This allows her to become a master sword fighter, but loses some of their alchemical abilities and ability to deal with traps.

Class: Investigator

Level: 1st–19th

Replaces: Alchemy/Spellcasting (Altered), Weapon Proficiency, Poison Lore, Poison Resistance and Poison Immunity

Benefit: A sword student gain the following class features:

Weapon Proficiency: A sword student is proficient with all martial weapons from the light blade and heavy blade weapon group, but lacks proficiency with the hand crossbow.

This ability alters the investigator's weapon proficiencies.

Diminished Alchemy/Spellcasting: A sword student may prepare one fewer extract of each level than normal. If this reduces the number to 0, he may prepare an extract of that level only if her Intelligence allows bonus spells of that level. If the sword student traded her extract for spellcasting, this effect applies for spellcasting instead, making the sword student cast one fewer spell of each level than normal

This ability alters alchemy, but does not prevent a sword student who traded her alchemy class feature from qualifying for this archetype.

Sword Training (Ex): A sword student start the game with the Weapon Focus as a bonus feat. She must select a weapon from the light blade or heavy blade weapon group with her Weapon Focus feat. The sword student counts her class level as her effective fighter for the purpose of qualifying for feats. At 5th level she gains Weapon Specialization as a bonus feat, and Greater Weapon Focus at 8th. If she already had those feat, she may select another combat feat she meet the prerequisites of.

This ability replaces poison resistance and poison immunity class features.

Nimble (Ex): A sword student gains the nimble class feature of a gunslinger of her class level.

This ability replaces the poison lore class feature.
