Summary::Humanoid creatures that have the body, shape and mentality of lizards and other saurians.

Summary::Inhabitants of the moon, descended from ancient colonizers. When the world was in grave danger due to ecological disasters and other calamities, a group of like-minded people, mainly elves and humans, chose to live on the moon to avoid their own destruction. With the help of magic and technology they developed a way to reach the celestial body and to live on the barren face of the moon, preparing themselves not to make the same mistakes that were made on the world. After thousands of years their descendants mutated and evolved into a new race: the selenites, who now inhabit and call home the moon having named it Selene, and themselves the selenites.

Personality
Personality
Self-reliant, wild, cunning and sly are all traits of the standard lacertan. They are often solitary, who just congregate in small, tribe-like groups, not more than expanded families, but even so, lacertans give more credit to personal attachments rather than social bonds, an expression of their strong individuality (they may appear even lacking compassion to other races).
+
Selenites are as varied as humans in their behaviour and personalities, but, as a society, they are educated from a young age in social skills, in the value of freedom and order, are taught compassion and solidarity and generally adhere to this world view.

Despite this, they share a common ancestry, religion and cultural heritage and acknowledge this when interacting with each other. They often prefer to stand together towards other race, even if they don't personally know each other.
+
Your average selenite is a refined individual who admires art, cultivate the high crafts, is interested in politics and social questions, is pious and philosophical and generally strives for the good and the betterment of itself and its own community.

Physical Description
Physical Description
Lacertans are a curious race of people-like lizards, with no specific denomitator to refer to: they may be sleek, sturdy, with long or shorter tails, thin or squared heads, sometimes frilled or feathered, and in some cases they have some sort of fur growing from their scales.
+
Selenites are diaphanous, usually with fair skin, sometimes grey-silvery, or darker, reminding the color of the other face of the moon or that of space. They are beautiful and have shapely limbs, usually with silver or blonde hair, though other colors are also found among them. Their eyes are of many lively colors, more than the average human. They have fine faces, with delicate noses and ears, high cheeks and perfect teeth. They can be confused for elves, but they have many body traits of humans or half-elves too.

They can assume a variety of colors, from grey to dull green, brown, vibrant leaf color, golden sand and such. Their specific colors and physical traits depend on their habitat, which commands the color of their scales, allowing them to better hide in it.
+
They are most certainly the distant offspring of these three groups, though they features were not left in the hands of chaos, but they, within a certain degree, genetically engineered to best adapt to their home and their society. They wear comfy and elegant clothes.

They prefer to wear comfortable clothes, apt for survival in the wild according to the characteristics of their land.

Relations
Relations
Due to their secretive and violent ways they are often shunned by other races, which sometimes accomunate them to orcs, especially in those regions where they resort to stealing.
+
While they are generally accepted and well-liked, they are very rare outside of Selene, so not many know of their existence. They are active neighbours though and often send diplomats, sages and brave selenites down into the world to better learn about their neighbours and help with their struggles.

Sometimes they are better received, when they put away their violent inclination and try to stay together, or when they live in more urbanized areas
+
Their society is almost utopian and it's the result of a careful and cunning plan to direct the social and political evolution of the selenites, in such a way to produce a free, good-inclined, highly educated society.

Evil lacertans become brigands, either with a small group of kindred or in a larger group, with more diverse background.
+
They however suffer, while away from the moon, from lunacy (or moon madness), a psychological stress imposed by the absence of the moonlight, which makes them act erratically and almost mad while the moon is new, a fact that may make them less accepted than they would otherwise. This a flaw of their genetic and social design that their ancestors could not predict or eliminate when they planned for them.

Other lacertans become solitary nature guardians and protect natural sites with their life, in a sacred duty.
+
Alignment
Most good lacertans fight for the rights of the oppressed and often join revolutions and political movements (bit also armies).
+
Most of them are good, and they generally tend towards order rather than chaos, but they don't give up their individuality and freedom, which they highly value. There are non-good and non-lawful selenites but even they usually show restraint, and are otherwise re-educate when possible rather than shunned.

Alignment
+
Lands
The majority of lacertans are chaotic, a trait reflecting their independent nature and love for freedom. Fewer are neutral, while lawful lacertans are almost unheard.
+
Almost all selenites live on the moon, in the various, magical and futuristic cities that exist above and under the ground. They are tightly connected and, although the cities are not that many, they exchange and communicate rather often, and their inhabitants move often between the cities, not to stagnate too much one of them.

They tend towards neutrality on the good-evil axis, but chaotic good lacertans do exist, who become mostly freedom-fighters. Evil-aligned lacertans usually are the most prolific pillagers.
+
They haven't adapted to living in absence of oxygen because their ancestors built incredible cities able to sustain their descendants and modified the moon with powerful spells to make it less inhospitable.

Lands
+
Adventuring selenites usually live wherever they find themselves, but many who have important tasks and jobs live among the nobility and governments of the world.

They are widespread among almost all environments, having adapted to a variety of climates and terrains. They usually live in small villages, very much in contact with nature (except for the minority of city-dwelling lacertans), foraging, hunting and sometimes pillaging for sustenance, while guarding their habitat and caring for it.
+
On Selene itself, they are plagued by the strange, shapeshifting beasts that live on the surface. They are at constant war with this mysterious race of monsters that seem to absorb power from the moon itself, an act that is both blasphemous and infuriating to the selenites.

Religion
Religion
Their faith pays homage to the First Predator and First Prey, two god-like concepts often represented by a lizard biting its tail who preside over the aspects for death and life, hunting and nature.
+
As obvious, they worship the Moon itself, calling it Selene, the mother, father, home and protection, believing that's the moon itself sustaining them and allowing them to live in such a place, a feat that they deem worthy of adoration.

Most lacertans who become nature guardian devote themselves to this divine entity.
+
They recognize in every moon deity an aspect of the moon, and even among them there are those who choose to venerate mainly an aspect of the moon (very notable are the Darkmoon disciples but also those who follow the ancient cult of the lunar deity Demetra or Diana, which among the selenites is called the Silver Huntress).
 +

 +
They also pay respects to deities of travel, art, craft, love, nature, knowledge and such, which they believe are minor deities that may help them in day-to-day life.

Language
Language
Their language of choice is Common, mainly for its semplicity.
+
They speak lunarian, a language which mixes parts of Common and Elvish, adding its own spin. Creatures that know the two languages may get a general idea of what a person speaking lunarian is saying. They also learn Common to better communicate with the earthlings.

When on the moon they don't suffer from the lack of oxygen or from ambient temperature, so that they may live normally as if there was breathable air and a temperate climate. They do need these conditions in other places, as it's the moon sustaining them rather than an innate ability. Selenites are also adapted to light gravity, and so they don't suffer from the effects of light gravity (but they still get any bonus it offers). Penalties of low gravity are halved for them.

Alternate Racial Feature
+
* Moon Rager

* Breathing Sac: Living near water for a prolonged time, made some lacertans develop a specialized organ to allow them to hold their breath for longer. They can for breathe when airless for 10 minutes, as if holding their breath. The same amount of time spent must be used to refill the sac. This feature could avoid inhaled effects. This feature replaces the Trailblazer feature.
+
* Scholar of Selene - moon rabbit familiar - return transmuted creatures into normal -

* Cuttail: In some unfortunate cases, lacertans may lose their tails and never recover it, especially due to birth or genetic defects, curses or other kind of magic. This a brand of shame for them, and many forsake their home as soon as they can, never to return. They gain the Nomad's Blade feat for free. This feature replaces the Decoy Tail feature.
+
* Silver Hunter ability to better sense shapeshifters

* Double Claw Style: More martially oriented lacertans learn special techniques with scimitars. You gain Two-Weapon Fighting for free and you treat a scimitar as a light weapon for the purpose of two-weapon fighting. This feature replaces the Saurian Agility feature.
+
--->

* Fur-coated Reptile: Lacertans living in cold environments have evolved special adaptations to resist the frigid temperature in the form of light but warm hair. They gain cold resistance 5 and fire susceptability 5. This feature replaces the Cold Blooded feature.
+
Pathfinder Options
*  Sandswimmer: In deserts lacertans have less chance of climbing, and  so their bodies often adapt to burrow instead. They gain a burrow speed equal to 20 feet when in moving on sand or similar loose soil. This feature replaces the climb speed.
+
Alternate Racial Features
* Guerrilla Warrior: Thanks to their combat tradition and hunting skills, some lacertans learn special war tactics. They gain the Guerrilla feat for free. This feature replaces the Saurian Agility feature.
+
* Darkmoon Cultist: Some devoted selenites are part of the Darkmoon cult and develop different skills than most others. They gain a +2 racial bonus to Hide, Knowledge (religion) and Move Silently, aided as they are from the shadowy part of the moon. This alternate feature replaces the Refined Craft feature.

*  Water Way: Lacertans that live along the sea, in swamps, or near other great bodies of water have a tendency to learn to swim instead of climbing. They gain a swim speed equal to 20 feet. This feature replaces the climb speed.

Selenite[edit]

Inhabitants of the moon, descended from ancient colonizers.
