A lantern shield can be fitted with [https://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment/armor/shield-spikes/ shield spikes], unlike a buckler. A lantern shield is an exotic shield, and requires Exotic Shield Proficiency<sup>[[Publication:Races of Stone|RoS]]</sup>. A proficient user is capable of using the hand using the lantern shield to wield another weapon as a [[SRD:Buckler|buckler]]. A non-proficient user increases the armor check penalty of a lantern shield by 3.
