This does look like a pretty amusing trade, but I don't think fast healing works nicely with linear scaling like that, and it seems like you'd often choose to get Unholy Regeneration in place of the second Unholy Toughness you find. |
Fast Healing[edit]
Fast healing 1 is really great; it lets you return to full health after a few minutes of relaxation. Fast healing 5 does a similar thing; the time between when a character takes its first couple points of damage and when it is killed is seldom more than 3 rounds, so the in-combat HP granted by Fast Healing 5 is only maybe 12 more than the in-combat HP granted by Fast Healing 1. If the creature optimizes for hit-and-run, it could almost as easily sweep by every 50 rounds as every 5 (the enemy has more time to run away or whatever in the former case).
Fast Healing doesn't scale as nicely with level as bonus HP per HD does: the number of rounds per combat does not necessarily increase. Thus, you could potentially consider multiplying the fast healing granted by Unholy Regeneration at higher levels. --Foxwarrior 18:49, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- Noted on it's in combat usefulness, though I disagree somewhat on scale... I think fast healing becomes useful at 5 and above in combat. I few it less as healing and more as a form of DR which applies to anything (but only once a round), so I've messured its usefulness as if it were comparable DR. Even so, fast healing is tricky, which is why I let this stack with any pre-existing fast healing. On its own, its just ok, given with other sources of fast healing it might be a really effective form of ablative defenses instead of post-combat healing.
- Ironically the intent of replacing a second unholy toughness was intentional. It occured to me that there are a few rare cases where you could find more than one, and I thought, "what if you could still make use of it... waaaait a minute". That, and it's an interesting alternative to extra hp by making you recover faster. -- Eiji-kun 22:49, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
