Talk:Harm, Greater (3.5e Spell)
BalancingEdit
This is probably about a 6th level spell in practice. You might also want to make the wording a little clearer. - MisterSinister 07:19, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- The spell it's based on, harm, is a 6th-level spell. A stronger version of a spell should not be at the same spell level. I'd say this is an 8th-level spell at minimum, but 9th seems to be pretty good. I also took care of the wording issue by creating a spell to act as its positive energy counterpart and making a link to that, much as harm acts like heal and heal acts like harm on the undead. --Luigifan18 (talk) 00:54, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- Luigifan, harm is not a true-6. Seriously, just because spells are printed at a certain level doesn't mean they are good at that level by any stretch of anyone's imagination. I mean seriously, fireball? Gimme a break. - MisterSinister (talk) 05:46, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- Don't diss fireball, MisterSinister, it's good at everything it does except damage. And you might be right that harm is not among the good spells at its level, but writing a better spell and nonchalantly putting it at the same level as the original is a bit silly. Unless this spell gets listed as Very High, maybe. --Foxwarrior (talk) 05:54, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- Only reason fireball can't do much damage is because of the cap! Way too low if you ask me. --Luigifan18 (talk) 08:22, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- The cap doesn't matter until level 11. A single fireball isn't overly harmful before then, either. --Foxwarrior (talk) 08:32, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- While we're on the subject of low-powered spells - meteor swarm. That's supposed to be the epitome of fire magic?!? For a 9th-level spell, the damage is totally underwhelming. 24d6 in four 6d6 fireballs? Lots of other spells can do better... --Luigifan18 (talk) 08:59, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think Harm is all that bad. It's bad effects are less to do with damage and more to do with the fact it's a touch spell with a save. Not enough for me to complain about honestly, I'd still prep it.
