Between the settled human lands and the orc-filled mountains rests the barony of Honshar. The residents have grown used to occasional orc raids, but now they find themselves facing a full-scale war. As if that wasn't bad enough, the orcs have kidnapped an important political figure from Honshar, along with a crucial magical item?the Silver Key. Unless the key is recovered, it could be Honshar's undoing.

Both the key and the hostage are being held in the orc city of Krimba-Hai, so getting them back will be tricky. However, there is a plan. . . .

Plot Summary[edit]

In The Silver Key, recommended for a party of two to six characters of levels two to eight, orcs roam the country as the human residents of the city of Horonshar prepare for war. A force of human soldiers was ambushed a few days ago, and taken prisoner was an important military officer who carried the Silver Key, a magical item that aids with teleportation. The player characters must infiltrate the orcish fortress, rescue the officer, and retrieve the key before the orcs are able to learn how to use it.[1]

The adventurers must be polymorphed into orcs in order to accomplish their infiltration. The adventure includes a set of rules that details how players gain "orc points" for convincing roleplaying; a character that gets too many points becomes an orc permanently.[1]

No map is given for the orcish fortress, but instead the adventure uses a flow chart. Regions of the chart determine encounters and information yielded, and the characters move from one region to another by means of dice roles.[1]
