The body of an Onix is covered with black stones that have endured so much pressure that they are as hard as diamond. Resembling a tremendous stone serpent, Onix tunnel through the earth as easily as they traverse the surface. An Onix burrows so quickly and efficiently, that some creatures make their homes entirely in the cave complexes that an Onix leaves in its wake.
While they are elemental creatures, Onix live their lives deep underground on the prime material plane. As such, Onix are not generally extraplanar creatures, despite being Elementals.

Tactics Round-by-Round:
Onix prefer to stay beneath the ground, where they are relatively safe.
- Round 1: Burst out of the ground and Screech.
- Round 2: Bite something.
- Round 3: Screech.
- Round 4: Bite Something...
Screech (Su): At will, an Onix can emit a powerful sonic scream. This acts as a greater shout, caster level equal to its Hit Dice. The save is Charisma based.
- The sample Onix has a caster level of 16 for Screech, and the save DC is 18.
Rage (Ex): An Onix can Rage, as a Barbarian of a level equal to its hit dice.
Crush (Ex): An Onix can crush opponents at least 3 sizes smaller than itself. Any such unfortunate creatures inside its facing at the conclusion of its movement must make a Reflex save (DC 10 +1/2 HD + Con Modifier) or become pinned automatically and suffer 2d8+Strength Modifier in bludgeoning damage. Thereafter, if the Onix wants to maintain its pin, treat it as a normal grapple.
- The sample Onix has a save DC of 25 for its Crush, inflicts 2d8+12 damage and has a grapple bonus of +32.
