Asuras are good messenger spirits in service to deities, and as such are the main competitors to the devas. They are a symbol of goodness and light, kindness and tenderness, and often appear on the Material Plane helping mystics and faithful.[1]

Description[edit]

An asuras resemble a human with marble-pale skin and huge red wings. Their feet are armed with eagle claws and they wear loose togas.[1]

Combat[edit]

From time immemorial, asuras were messengers, not soldiers, but their strength and combat experience are not to be underestimated. They prefer to attack their opponents from the air, causing terrible wounds by claws and hand-held weapons. Being one of the wisest creatures in the outer planes, they are immune to many forms of enchantment and are completely protected from illusions. Thanks to their marvelous vision, an asuras can easily recognize lies and punish the guilty. Asuras can also transform into a human or demihuman to go unnoticed. In this case, their abilities are retained.[1]

Habitat/Society[edit]

In their native planes, asuras are managed by experienced commanders who they unconditionally obey. But, at any time, any of the asuras may easily switch allegiance to another commander as their service is always free. There are also wandering free asuras, helping people around the world and showing by example how to live.[1] Usually, asuras are in the service of a deity. Some of them, however, lose their patron through some circumstance, and then try to guide themselves to a purpose of good. They are called rogue asuras.[2]
All asuras together, calling themselves the Grand Celestial Host,[2] recognize a supreme general called Absalom as their leader.[1]

Ecology[edit]

Asuras are beings living in the outer planes and thus do not directly influence the ecology of Zakhara.[1]
