Pact Magic

When you select this subclass at 3rd level, you begin to learn dark and hidden secrets of magic, granting you facility to cast spells.

Cantrips

At 3rd level, you learn two Cantrips of your choice, selected from the Warlock spell list. You learn another Warlock Cantrip of your choice in this way at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Occultist Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have. The table also shows what the level of those slots is; all of your spell slots are the same level. To cast one of your Warlock spells of 1st level or higher, you must expend a spell slot. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a Short or Long Rest.

For example, when you are 8th level, you have two 2nd-level spell slots. To cast the 1st-level spell Witch Bolt, you must spend one of those slots, and you cast it as a 2nd-level spell.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

At 3rd level, you know two 1st-level spells of your choice from the warlock spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Profane Soul Spellcasting table shows when you learn more warlock spells of your choice of 1st level and higher. A spell you choose must be of a level no higher than what’s shown in the table’s Slot Level column for your level. When you reach 13th level, for example, you learn a new warlock spell, which can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level.

Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the warlock spells you know and replace it with another spell from the warlock spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your Occultist spells. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Occultist spell you cast, and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Otherworldly Bargain

You've struck a deal with a powerful otherworldly entity, gaining a portion of their power. This grants you a spell based on your choice of otherworldly patron, which does not count against your number of spells known, and can be cast with any spell slots you possess. You can cast this spell once without expending a spell slot, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a Long Rest.

  • The Archfey: Entangle
  • The Celestial: Cure Wounds
  • The Fathomless: Fog Cloud
  • The Fiend: Command
  • The Genie: Sanctuary
  • The Great Old One: Dissonant Whispers
  • The Hexblade: Shield
  • The Undead: Ray of Sickness
  • The Undying: False Life

Dark Rituals

At 3rd level, you gain a Grimoire, a book containing forbidden knowledge. Upon study of your Grimoire, it reveals knowledge of two 1st-level spells with the Ritual tag; Each time you gain a level in a class, you can add 1 spell with the Ritual tag to your Grimoire for free. These rituals can be from any class list, but must be of a level equal to or lower than the level listed in the Max Ritual Level column of the Occult Spellcasting level.

You can cast any of the spells inscribed in your Grimoire as Rituals. If you come across a spell in written form, such as a magical spell scroll or a wizard's spellbook, you might be able to add it to your Grimoire; The spell must have the Ritual tag, and must be of a level equal to or lower than your Max Ritual Level.

The process of copying the spell into your Grimoire takes 2 hours per level of the spell, and costs 50 gp per spell level. The cost represents the material components you expend as you experiment with the spell to master it, as well as the fine inks you need to record it.

Illuminated Arcana

At 9th level, your patron grants you the use of a distinctive spell based on your pact. This spell does not count against your number of spells known, and can be cast with any spell slots you possess. You can cast this spell once without expending a spell slot, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a Long Rest.

  • The Archfey: Blur
  • The Celestial: Lesser Restoration
  • The Fathomless: Gust of Wind
  • The Fiend: Scorching Ray
  • The Genie: Phantasmal Force
  • The Great Old One: Detect Thoughts
  • The Hexblade: Branding Smite
  • The Undead: Blindness/Deafness
  • The Undying: Silence

Mystic Escape

Beginning at 9th level, whenever you use your Uncanny Dodge feature, immediately after the attack is resolved, you can magically teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 10ft.

The distance you may teleport in this way increases to 30ft when you reach 17th level in this class.

Enervating Scar

At 13th level, when a creature fails its saving throw against one of your Warlock spells, the next attack you make against that creature before the end of your next turn benefits from Sneak Attack, even if it ordinarily wouldn't.

Additionally, when you land a successful Sneak Attack against a creature, that creature has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes against one of your Warlock spells before the end of your next turn.

Sovereign Arcana

At 17th level, your patron grants you the use of a dangerous spell based on your pact. This spell does not count against your number of spells known, and can be cast with any spell slots you possess. You can cast this spell once without expending a spell slot, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a Long Rest.

  • The Archfey: Slow
  • The Celestial: Revivify
  • The Fathomless: Lightning Bolt
  • The Fiend: Fireball
  • The Genie: Protection from Energy
  • The Great Old One: Haste
  • The Hexblade: Blink
  • The Undead: Speak with Dead
  • The Undying: Bestow Curse
