Mumsteel[edit]
Mumsteel is a sound-dampening metal which quiets the area around itself. It appears as normal steel, but impacting the metal gives a dulled whisper of a thump sound. It is found in places of unnatural silence and lack of activity, and places with the stasis planar trait.
Any weapon primarily composed of metal can be made as a mumsteel weapon. Combat sounds from the wielder of the weapon and anyone in their reach are muted to the point that sound only travels 1/2 as far, and the DC to hear it increases by +5. It also confers a +5 circumstance bonus to Move Silently checks when actively wielded. For mumsteel projectiles, the silencing effect applies to both the origin of the projectile and the target, rather than out to the users reach. On a critical threat with a mumsteel weapon, the target is deafened for 1 round (or 2 rounds for a x3 weapon, or 3 rounds for a x4 weapon) regardless if the creature can be struck with critical hits or not.
For mumsteel armor and shields, the armor check penalty on Move Silently checks is halved, or reduced by 5, whichever is greater. It also provides Resistance to Sonic damage equal to its base armor or shield bonus (before enhancement). Armor and shields stack.
Mumsteel is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, mumsteel alloy weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and armor and shields have their armor check penalty decreased by 1.
Mumsteel has 10 hit point per inch of thickness and hardness 10. It is immune to sonic damage, takes full damage from acid damage, and half damage from everything else.
