Expanded Languages[edit]
D&D has quite a few languages which are shared among multiple species and races (and even more languages specific to races), yet it seems to have skipped over a few obvious entries. The following are general languages designed to cover groups not covered by the base rules.
Language | Typical Speakers | Alphabet |
---|---|---|
Aklo* | Eldritch Beings, Elder Evils | Common |
Anarch | Chaotic Outsiders | Slaadi |
Axial | Inevitable, Lawful Outsiders | Celestial and Infernal |
Necril* | Undead | Necril |
Umbral | Creatures from the Shadow Plane | Abyssal |
*This language, while present in Pathfinder, does not officially exist in 3.5e. Now it does.
Aklo[edit]
Said to be a crude attempt at understanding the foreboding haunting wails from beings beyond the veil of reality, and as such it is normally written in common.
Axial[edit]
A logical and artificial language, blending together celestial, infernal, and complex equations and grammar rules.
Anarch[edit]
This "language" is actually a translation tool to help convert Slaadi, Protean, and whatever made up language the mad members of the chaos plans have made up, and converted into a language technically decipherable by others.
Necril[edit]
An ancient language often spoken by undead, and associated with necromancy and the dark arts.
Umbral[edit]
A spooky sounding language, its spoken by the things lurking within the shadow plane.
