A piercing ram is a weapon carried by varied types of ships.[1][2] The weapon consists of a prolongation of the bow of the ship[1] to form an armoured beak, usually between six and twelve feet (2-4 m) in length.[citation needed] This would be driven into the hull of an enemy ship in order to puncture the hull and at least disable the target ship.[1]
