[[Summary::This mushroom is poisonous, damaging the eyes even as it enhances one's sense of hearing.  It's dangerous due to its addictive properties.]]  If ingested, users must make a DC 15 [[Fortitude]] save or be struck blind for 1 hour.  In return they gain blindsense out to 60 ft, and blindsight out to 30 ft for the duration.  A successful save negates both benefits and penalties.

This is situationally useful, but the mushroom is addictive.  Every day users mush make a DC 15 [[Fortitude]] save or crave consuming another blindcap mushroom, or suffer from a cumulative [[Daunt (3.5e Creature Ability)|daunt]] level if they do not indulge after failing a save.  Nothing happens on a successful save, but 3 successful consecutive saves or casting ''[[SRD:Remove Disease|remove disease]]'' in place of a save is required to remove the addiction.

Long term use over the course of a year can leave an individual permanently blind with blindsense and blindsight.  Extreme use can physically distort the user, with their eyes grown over by scabs and their body often becoming thin and wiry.

Blindcap mushrooms grow deep underground, and are typically associated with the Underdark.  They are eaten raw, as any sort of processing may remove its effects.
