It's only two tricks (one which is life threatening to use, shake up). Numerically it shouldn't be any more impressive than a bat.
Well, I suppose the bow is a third trick, but 1 nonlethal damage won't change any games. I say it's a fair shake compared to blindsense. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 10:20, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
What normal familiar grants blindsense? And at what range? AFAIK, most familiars just give like... +2 to a save or in the MOST extreme cases, +4 to initiative. --Ghostwheel (talk) 10:58, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
The bat, 20 ft. You're thinking of the familiar bonus, which is a different thing, but you forget the familiar itself can have useful properties. The bat is notable for its blindsense, but fly, climb, and swim speeds may be useful. Especially if used as touch-spell carriers. For touch-spell uses, eagles or owls are typical due to their movement. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 11:06, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Touch-spell carriers are nice in theory, but in practice they get ripped through instantly. Not worth it. And between the flight, ranged attack, abilities, and more, I still see this as a candidate for Improved Familiar. --Ghostwheel (talk) 11:57, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
They can be done, though it tends to be the point of your build rather than an after thought (familiars are squishy). Opinion noted though. Shake Up might be worth a moderate balance feat to get this as a familiar, potentially giving your whole team extra saves is nice. The flight and ranged attack it has though really aren't far and away better than any other flying critter you could hand a longbow or have drop rocks though. --Foxwarrior (talk) 20:46, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
