Lilith Sinclair had people she wanted to protect and magic with which to protect them. Unfortunately for her, she was from a tradition that believed that all power had a price.

In its base state, this Deep Crystal amulet does nothing beyond hold a small picture or memento of a loved one, however a creature with the Psionic subtype instinctively know how to attune with it in a one hour ritual. Once attuned, they become aware of its power.

The amulet is useless as a protection to the person attuned to it, but when worn by someone the attuned would consider a friend or ally, it will automatically absorb the first non-instantaneous non-harmless [Mind-Affecting] effect that the wearer fails a Will save for. The amulet holds that effect until it's released as a one minute action by either the wearer or the person attuned.

If the effect is released by the wearer, they are unaware of what the effect is unless they already knew. At the end of the minute, the wearer falls under the effect for one hour or the original duration, whichever is longer.

If the effect is released by the person attuned, they are aware of what effect is in the amulet before they complete the release, and may choose whether or not to release it at that point. At the end of the minute, the attuned person falls under the effect for one hour or the original duration, whichever is shorter.

Only one person may be attuned to the Charmcatcher Locket at a time. If someone new attunes themselves, the last person attuned becomes unattuned, but any effect inside the amulet remains attuned. A Charmcatcher Locket does not stop Mind-Affecting effects from the person attuned. Charmcatcher lockets are traditionally made with a particular person in mind and specialized for that person, although they can work for anyone.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Items OR Craft Universal Item, Sinclair's Sacrificial Self-Conduit, Someone involved in the crafting must have the Psionic subtype.
