XiaoEdit
Survivors of the disaster in the city of Hamonah, the xaio are humanoids reborn with furnaces of creation in their soul and life burning through their bones. Their eyes glow with a radiance born from beyond the material plane.
PersonalityEdit
The xiao that exist are technically new beings reincarnated from the original monks of Hamonah. They can be anything, as their past lives are hazy memories at best. Those not of original stock are even more disconnected from their source. The only certain aspect of their personality is that they trend towards extremes in whatever they choose to do.
Physical DescriptionEdit
Xiao are humans who have had their insides replaced by the burning energies of the positive energy plane, usually taking the form of a glow under the skin where their heart should be. This glow extends through their body but is most visible in their blank white eyes which shine with an inner light, and sometimes within their mouths.
While many Xiao are bald, this is usually a matter of culture and they are capable of all the visible variation common in humans, and sometimes moreso, as they can grow very long hair, very long nails, or other exaggerated aspects of biology.
RelationsEdit
Xiao are not well known as their own separate power, and most would assume they are some specific form of humans (technically correct) or something else entirely unknown.
AlignmentEdit
Xiao can be any alignment, and often represent the extremes of their alignments, as they are extreme about many things in their life.
LandsEdit
The xiao originate from a single displaced city known as Hamonah. It was a city dominated by the extremely large martial temple presence and a cultural dominance by the local life worshiping monks. Through the machinations of misguided powers Hamonah experienced a cataclysm not unlike the fate of Elturel, and in their effort to get closer to the life giving source of their power they drew too close, literally. The city was ripped from its foundations and thrown into the edge of the positive energy plane, killing almost all of its inhabitants. But as the source of all life, its slain residents were not permitted to stay dead and from the riotous chaos, some of the monks capable to channeling their inner energies were reborn in a stable enough state and escaped the city back to reality, but forever changed.
Now the species breeds true as an altered form of humanity. Their home city technically still exists, but is inaccessible and uninhabitable by all but the most hardy and dangerous mutants and lifeforms.
ReligionEdit
Xaio had originated from a monastic society who theoretically worshiped the concept of life itself, but no direct religious ties exist.
LanguageEdit
Xaio speak Common.
NamesEdit
Xaio possess typical humanoid names.
Racial TraitsEdit
- Humanoid (Human): The Xaio are human-enough to still count as human, even as their bodies burn with extraplanar energy.
- Medium: As a Medium creature, a xaio has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
- Xaio base land speed is 30 feet.
- Awakened Past Life: Their previous life as a monk has an effect on them. They have Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat and count as a 1st level monk for prerequisites. They gain one bonus feat available to a monk of their level, and do not need to qualify as per the class feature. If they gain actual levels in monk, they may count as a monk +2 levels higher for the purpose of scaling class features (but do not gain features until they actually acquire them normally).
- Energetic Hand (Ex): The positive energy running through their body allows the xiao to interact with incorporeal creatures as if they had the ghost touch enhancement. They also deal maximum damage with their natural attacks and unarmed strikes against undead or other creatures harmed by positive energy.
- Energetic Soul (Su): The positive energy running through their body grants them a +4 deflection bonus on AC against incorporeal touch attacks. In addition, they cannot be raised as undead due to the energy saturating even their corpse.
- Inner Light (Su): Xiao may emit light as per my light at will as a supernatural ability. Toggling the intensity and color of the light is a free action. Once per day as a standard action they can dramatically increase the light they produce in a single flash, forcing a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 HD + their highest mental ability modifier) against blindness for 1d4+1 rounds in a 20 ft cone.
- Maximum Vigor (Ex): Xiao always gain the maximum rolled amount from any healing or curing of ability damage or drain.
- Automatic Languages: Common
- Bonus Languages: Any (except secret languages)
- Favored Class: Monk
- Level Adjustment: +0
- Effective Character Level: 1
