Standing before you is a terrible beast, the deformed head of a lion bearing two great bull horns, the body of an ape covered in thick blue fur and two great feathered wings. The creature grab a nearby weapon and look at you, his eyes full of malice.

A terrible beast of age past, rygars are great beasts of destructive demeanor that can drive entire civilization to ruins. A rygar's appearance is distinctive, with a lion head with two great horns, the body of a furred great ape and a large pair of feathered wings. A rygar's fur color can be of a light color such as cream or white, to darker color like marine blue or black. These creatures typically stand about 15 feet tall and weigh around 2 tons. Despite their bestial body they are able to wield weapons, and often prefer brutal-looking blades.

These beasts are quite clever, but are not very imaginative or social, thus do not form social bonds with others of their kind. A rygar possesses a volatile temper, even encountered in one of its extremely rare good moods, it is rare that an encounter ends without violence. A rygar can exist for many thousand years, typically preferring to stay isolated from civilization. They hunt large prey, but are not above hunting humanoid for sustenance. As a result they will usually drive civilizations that settle close to it lair away. When it feels that its long lifespan is about to end, it typically leaves its lair and rampages across civilization. It destroys and devours everything in its path, until it finally encounters death.

Despite their might, the rygar are undergoing a slow extinction. Indeed, few rygars are born, and many dies to adventurer or territorial fights.

Combat

A rygar prefers to start a fight by pouncing on the most intimidating-looking foes. After this point all bets are off and the rygar will target any foes which damage or impair it. Once it causes its enemies to scatter it will pick them off with its bow, until they flee beyond its range. If a rygar is wounded and is losing the fight, it will often take air and bombard its foe from above. They typically fight to the death and don't bother fleeing.

Breath Weapon (Su): A rygar possesses a breath weapon, a 120' line of blue fire which deals 15d6 fire damage, a successful Reflex save (DC 24) halves the damage. After using its breath weapon, an rygar must wait 1d4 rounds before using it again. A creature slain by a rygar's breath weapon is obliterated, leaving only ashes and equipment behind. The DC is Constitution-based.

Extraordinary Health (Ex): A rygar is a mythical beast of legend, and thus always has maximum hit points.

Ferocity (Ex): A rygar is such a tenacious combatant that it continues to fight without penalty even while disabled or dying.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a rygar must hit with a bite or claw attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Immunity to Magic (Ex): An rygar is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance or a supernatural ability which replicate a spell which allow spell resistance. If a ruby worth at least 1,000 gp is used as an optional material component for casting a spell, this immunity is bypassed.

Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of rygar lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a rygar is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the rygar is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A rygar is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A rygar can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.

Powerful Charge (Ex): A rygar typically begins a battle by charging at an opponent, lowering its head to bring its mighty horns into play. In addition to the normal benefits and hazards of a charge, this allows the beast to make a single additional gore attack before its normal attack with a +27 attack bonus that deals 10d6+26 points of damage.
