The most simple and yet most useful of all robots is the simple arm. Employed in factories around the world, the robot arm is often seen in factories welding together large chunks of metal in places too dangerous for humans and working at breakneck speeds and expert precision.

Robotic arms were not created by the Luna-Tesla Corporation, but they did perfect it with the Scara mass production model. A simple yellow mechanical arm the size of a man on a heavy base support with deploy-able roller wheels for easy repositioning, the Scara is used to build anything from tiny watches to giant ships. They can be equipped with several hands, but the base model has a claw grip and welding torch dual-purpose manipulator. They often work with other hands in concert for maximum support.

While the Scara is not designed to move on its own (having no programming to reposition itself on its own), it is capable of self-deploying its rollers and using its arm to drag itself around, hence the source of its movement speed. In addition, though it has only one arm it has the strength of two and any object held in its hand can be considered wielded in two-hands. It's long arm can extend for additional reach which may not be first apparent.

Combat[edit]

Welding arms don't typically see battle, but the wielding torch is a dangerous tool regardless, and its heavy arm can easily crush human bones.

Hardness: The wielding arm is high grade steel, with hardness 10. It takes half damage from physical attacks, electricity, and fire damage, full damage from acid and sonic attacks, and one-quarter damage from cold attacks.

Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of welding arms lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a wielding arms is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the welding arms is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A welding arm is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A welding arm can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.

Programming: The welding arm possesses the following programs: Calculate, Collect, Identify Object, Mimic, Search, Sort.

Single Actions Only (Ex): Welding arms don't exactly have legs and must crawl its way along the ground. They can perform only a single move action or attack action each round. A welding arm can move up to its speed and attack in the same round, but only if it attempts a charge.

Stability (Ex): Welding arms have stability as a dwarf, but gain a +8 bonus from weight and a wide base instead of a +4 bonus.

Throw Anything (Ex): Welding arms can throw anything it can grapple with a minimum range increment of 20 ft, and is treated as proficient in the thrown object or creature. Creatures may take 1d6 falling damage for every 20 ft they are thrown (up to 5d6 at maximum range). Medium sized objects and creatures deal 1d6 damage (plus 1 and 1/2 Strength), with damage rising and falling as the size changes (1d4 for small, 1d8 for large). Thrown creatures take throwing damage and falling damage, while other creatures or objects struck just take the throwing damage.

Weld (Ex): Welding arms can apply an arc of high energy plasma which deals damage to most things and melts and welds metal. Against creatures and objects it deals 2d6 points of simultaneous electricity and fire damage as a touch attack. Resistances and immunities don't apply unless you can apply to both electricity and fire. This damage ignores hardness. Against metals (but not metal creatures), it can be done flush against another metal and weld them together. This bond is effectively unbreakable, and the two metal objects are one unless something (including the welding torch) cuts them apart again. It can weld up to a 5 ft cubic piece of metal a round.

Skills: Wielding arms get a +10 racial bonus to any Craft checks.

Construction[edit]

Scara-1981 Welding Arms are build out of a composite of many different metals, plastics, and alloys which must be processed in a factory. In addition its computer core requires special components and programming. The cost of the base material components are worth 360 gp.

Assembling the body requires a DC 18 Craft (technology) check, a DC 18 Knowledge Engineering, or a DC 18 Knowledge Xeno check.

CL 7th; Craft Construct, bull's strength, cat's grace, lesser geas; Price 3,600 gp; Cost 1,620 gp + 129 XP.
