Soul-Devouring

Some creatures are fabled to eat the souls of their victims, trapping them for all eternity.

Soul-Devouring creatures tend to be more imposing than others of their kind and to have more pronounced mouths (or analogous parts).

Creating a Soul-Devouring Creature

Soul-Devouring is an acquired template that may be applied to any Animal, Dragon, Magical Beast, or Vermin that has a mouth or analogous part.

Speed

All of the base creatures speeds increase by 10'.

Armor Class

The base creature gains a +1 bonus to its natural armor for every creature it has eaten with a soul and an Intelligence of 3 or higher, up to a maximum of its HD.

Attack

If the creature didn't previously have a bite attack, it gains one as a creature of its size. If it did previously have a bite attack, it increases the damage by one size.

Special Attacks

Improved Grab (Ex): The creature gains Improved Grab with its Bite attack.

Special Qualities

Soul-Devouring Stomach (Ex): When a Soul-Devouring creature kills a creature with its bite attack or eats a creature who has died within the last minute, the soul of the devoured creature is trapped inside the Soul-Devouring creature. The devoured creature cannot be raised by any means until the Soul-Devouring creature is killed (or potentially just gutted, but that's usually pretty lethal).

On the upside, the devoured creatures count the death of the Soul-Devouring creature as their time of death for the purposes of resurrection.

Abilities

+2 Constitution

Challenge Rating

+1

Treasure

In addition to whatever treasure the base creature normally has, the souls of the creatures it has devoured are freed.

Alignment

Soul-Devouring creatures are always Evil if they're able to consider the concept of morality (generally by having an Int of 5 or higher).

Level Adjustment

+1
