Double-Jump[edit]

Some creatures can jump while in the air. This works a lot like jumping from the ground, except it's done while in midair (hence the other common name of this ability, "Midair Jump"). While it can enable the user to maneuver in midair better than most other creatures, it is not flight; it is far more limited. Any creature with this ability can jump while in midair, but only a certain number of times, specified in the creature's entry. (Most creatures with this ability have only one midair jump, hence why it's usually referred to as "Double Jump".) Once the creature runs out of jumps, it cannot make another midair jump until it recovers its jumps, which can only be done by stabilizing its weight. For this purpose, "stabilizing weight" is accomplished by entering a circumstance where the creature can use a movement speed that it actually has; for most creatures, this means landing on the ground, but creatures with other movement speeds can regain midair jumps through other means (such as a creature with a climb speed clinging to a wall, or a creature with a fly speed beginning to fly).

The creature may use any number of its allotted midair jumps in immediate succession, or save them for later. Each midair jump requires a separate Jump check. If several jumps are used in immediate succession, simply combine all the Jump check results to determine its total height and distance; if the creature intentionally waits until it has fallen a bit before making a midair jump, the Jump checks are made independently.

If falling, using this ability resets falling damage to only apply from the point the midair jump was made from (which can negate it entirely, if the user jumps close to the ground).

Double-jumping can be an extraordinary or supernatural ability.
