Skin Suit[edit]

A gruesome creation, wearing the unprocessed skin of another, the skin does provide... benefits... of a sort.

Literally made of the skin of a creature, sometimes sentient, and worn with only the barest of treatment, a skin suit is stapled and stitched together to cover the form of whoever wears it. A creature can only wear a skin suit made from a creature its size or one size larger. While wearing a skin suit you take -6 on Diplomacy checks and +6 on Intimidate checks to other creatures, and double the penalty and bonus against creature of the same species whose skin you're wearing. You also gain a +8 bonus to disguise as said creature, but only from a range of 60 ft or more. While you wear the suit you will smell like a (wounded) form of that creature and your original scent is suppressed.

Skin suits only last for 1d4 days before rotting into uselessness, and begin smelling in half of that time, unless methods such as gentle repose are used to preserve it. If the creature had natural armor, you gain half of its natural armor bonus, and take an armor check penalty and +5% arcane spell failure chance for each point of natural armor you have (post halving). If it provides a natural armor bonus, the skin counts as light armor. It cannot be enhanced, and takes up the body slot.

If you use a polymorph effect to turn into the creature of the type of skin you are wearing, the polymorph is extended for free as if using Extend Spell. The skin can only apply this benefit once, further polymorphs do not have an extended effect.

For obvious reasons, skin suits aren't really sold, they're harvested. It requires a Craft Taxidermy check equal to the CR of the creature + 15 to make a suitable skin suit. The creature must have died within the last 8 hours, and harvesting takes 1 minute for a Medium creature (double, or half, the time for each size above and below). Wearing the skin of sentient creatures is seen as barbaric.

Price 0 gp, 9 lbs. for a Medium skin.
