Fluff Objection
Like your sniper rifle, I have a fluff issue concerning its simple nature. Unlike more common pistols and handguns, assault rifles usually suggest an element of finesse and technique to handle firing patterns and recoil. They strike me more martial or exotic, but not simple. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 08:29, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Assault rifles are the most popular child soldier weapon aren't they? --Foxwarrior (talk) 03:05, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- "Assault rifle" can cover a wide variety of weapons (AR clones, AK clones, F2K, QCB, TAR, etc.) which are very different.
- "Unlike more common pistols and handguns, assault rifles usually suggest an element of finesse and technique to handle firing patterns and recoil." Try firing a AR-15 with the butt placed in your crotch. It's doable. Then try the same with a .44 mag revolver (handle placed in your crotch, firing away form you). See me when you get out of the hospital. Fluffykittens (talk) 03:23, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I've fired neither. My observation largely came from what is civilian and what is military in function. While all guns are pretty easy, I imagined the more rapid firing associated with assault rifles may need more training. To be more specific, anyone can spray and pray, but can they fire and hit with their burst fire? I'll give you that this one is easier to swallow than the sniper rifle. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 11:41, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- "My observation largely came from what is civilian and what is military in function." Military guns aren't harder to use. You don't want to have to constantly fiddle with your gun in a firefight. Military vs civilian is more an issue of legality (for example in Mexico, it's almost impossible for poor and middle class civilians to acquire firearms legally, whereas just over the border in California, elephant guns are legal and the far weaker assault rifles aren't.) "To be more specific, anyone can spray and pray, but can they fire and hit with their burst fire?" Most people can't do so reliably, even with training. Automatic and burst fire is just very, very hard to aim with. "I'll give you that this one is easier to swallow than the sniper rifle." Learning to maintain, set up, and fire a gun is easy. It's actually hitting during combat that's the hard part.
