This gray spear has a twisting helix design built into it. When it is ready to fire, the helix curls up into a tight thin drill point.

The spear of infinite velocity is a masterwork spear that has a nigh-artifact like property of never being truly destroyed, only broken and never actually destroyed by mortal means. While durable it is otherwise unremarkable as a spear and is usually not enhanced due to its special ability. As a standard action the user may throw the spear with an infinite range increment, and the spear blasts forward at ever-increasing speeds. The spear rips through solid rock and creatures alike until it strikes something too hard to piece and embeds itself there. The spear is generally unrecoverable by any rational means, either being thrown into the void of space, embedded in another planet far away, or sunk into the mantle of the planet. When launched in this way, effects like the Returning enhancement do not apply, suppressed until found manually if at all.

The weapon deals an additional 1d6 points of damage for every 10 ft it flies, to a maximum of 20d6 damage at 200 ft or more ignoring up to 20 points of damage reduction or hardness 20 or less. Whatever magic propels it fortunately cap its destructive force there even if it strikes a surface at superluminal speeds, and keep its path of destruction in a tight hole rather than blasting off the planet's crust. As long as it is capable of bypassing hardness it will continue to pass through materials (and creatures) even if it fails to kill them. Medium or smaller creatures in the path have a 50% chance of not being hit if they are not the target, and only if your attack roll would have hit.

These weapons are not artifacts, but the means of creating them are lost and so they are only recovered from ancient tombs, dungeons, and the rare one that got stuck in a chunk of reinforced adamantine or deep in bedrock. A market price is given for the purposes of trade.
