You may kill me, but you will never be rid of me. I will haunt your children, and your children's children, until your entire line is dead!
When you cast this spell you select one object up to 10 lbs per level. If you die while the spell is still in effect, you may utter a death curse as a non-action which sets the contingency portion of this spell. The object becomes haunted with your spirit upon death, and you return in 1d10 days with the ghost template. However, you are bound to your haunted item and may not manifest more than 1 mile away from the object.
Your death curse gives you a victory condition on which your soul is free to pass on, typically revenge against those who slew you. If you achieve this, your ghost passes on into the afterlife as normal. However if your victory condition becomes impossible, you word it in a way which impossible to fulfill, or you simply never achieve it you will persist as a ghost until you fail to rejuvenate, or something destroys your haunted object, preventing you from using the rejuvenate ability of ghosts. Some spellcasters thought this may be a clever way to cheat death. However, for each year a ghost does not complete their task they must make a Will save (DC 15 + 1 per year). If they fail, they go mad and can no longer tell between friend and foe, and they treat all creatures as if they were the subject of their revenge.
The haunted object does not radiate magic (unless the item normally radiates magic) but does radiate faint evil. Haunted objects are often well hidden, or hidden in plain sight. The spell can be dismissed before you die, but once you are a ghost the spell effect has already passed.
Focus: One object up to 10 lbs per level.
