Dragon hatchlings are dragons that are newly hatched to 1 month old. During this time, they are voracious, eating anything in their path (except their fellow hatchlings and adult dragons of the same type). Usually the whole clutch of dragon eggs hatch at the same time. Because of this, they are almost always found in groups of 2-16 (2d8), although multiple groups have been known to be found in the same vicinity.

Because hatchlings are so weak, they often fall prey to predators or rival species. Because of this, dragons lay clutches of eggs that can number 3-60 (3d20). The parent dragon can determine when the eggs mature, allowing for a greater chance of survival. When they hatch the hatchlings fan out. The older the hatchling are the fewer of them can be found in a group. Once they are over a month old (called a wyrmling at this point), they begin to become territorial, driving out any fellow hatchlings from the area they claim.
