Mo

Mo are a humanoid panda species from the steppes and bamboo forests of their once conquered homeland. They were a passive species and were thus abused by hostile entities beyond their borders. Eventually their gentle attitude was pushed to violence, and their enemies remembered that they are, in the end, bears.

Personality

Mo are usually seen as slow to anger, despair, and other violent emotions. It is a result of where they originated, the bamboo forests of Arashi, a place haunted by strange fey energies and spirits. In this place, tulpas formed easily and negative thoughts could lead to the creation and release of actual monsters and fiends. Thus, creatures of the forest would learn to have temperance, or be tormented by their own nightmares.

This passivity turned against them in the Age of Conquest, where the homeland of the Mo was taken over by hostile forces from afar. But during this time, their temperance evolved into wisdom and judicious application of their growing anger, channeling it from monsters into the creation of strength, courage, and martial arts.

Even though these times are past, traditionally the Mo remain passive until pushed far enough that they must remind others that they remain a force to be reckoned with.

Physical Description

Mo are large humanoid pandas with large rotund bodies and heavy builds. They are strong but slow with a stronger mind still. They tend to be between 6 and 7 feet tall, covered in white fur with black patterns on the eyes, arms, legs, and back. There is said to be a similar looking but unrelated species that is smaller, red hued, and more nimble, but they are not the same species.

They are omnivores but have a rich culture in cooking vegetarian dishes.

Relations

The mo get along with most creatures, though some may yet hold a grudge with hobgoblins. It is said that they were conquered by a hobgoblin warrior nation for many generations and who stripped them of weapons and armor, forcing them into labor for the war machine. As a result, many learned to fight unarmed and unarmored. While weapon use is available these days, many still learn the basics of how to throw a punch or claw.

Alignment

Mo trend towards neutral and neutral good alignments.

Lands

The mo originate from the haunted bamboo forests of Arashi. This land is haunted by a curse that causes aggression and malice to manifest, so the population there must have tempered minds, lest they invite danger.

Religion

It is unclear if the mo had a religion originally, as such things may have been lost in conquest. In general though they tend to take a more animist viewpoint on matters of spirituality.

Language

Mo speak Common and Sylvan.

Names

Mo names vary, but the particular dialect they speak tends towards short rhythmic syllables where tone matters as much as what is actually being said.
