When the monster is killed, the spell ends and you appear in the monster's space with the same lethal, nonlethal, ability damage, and status effects in place on the monster. If this means that the monster was slain and the monster had an equal or greater number of hit points as you, you may be dead when you return to normal.
If prepared in a spell slot one level higher, this becomes Polymorph Other and it gains the range of Touch, with a Fortitude save (harmless). Creatures are limited by your caster level or the target's HD, whichever is lower.
