Finally the owlbear project is completed successfully! Bears! In the air! NO ONE IS SAFE!

The owlbear was a failed experiment to combine bear and bird, but someone has succeeded and created the skybear. Which immediately tore its creator to shreds and escaped to become a wild beast.

Wizards. No sense of right or wrong.

Just as it says, it is a bear with great wings. They come in lesser and greater versions, with lesser versions having hollow bones and weaker in frame, and greater versions more like an actual bear with wings. And then there are the elders, ancient greater skybears which lead entire flights. Skybears lay eggs like hippogriffs, and the two species are comparable.

Its said some insane dwarves have taken to skybears as a method of attacking from the sky while "not looking too elfish". Nothing is manlier than BEARS FROM THE SKY.

Combat

Skybears swoop in, attack, and swoop out. If they grapple a creature they bring them high in the air and drop, letting gravity do the dirty work for them.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a skybear must hit with a claw attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Roar (Ex): Elder skybears have a terrifying roar. Once per minute as a move action they can release a powerful bellow in a 120 ft cone, forcing creatures to make a DC 23 Will save or become frightened for 1 minute, or shaken for 1 round on a successful save. If within 60 ft, they must also make a Fortitude save or become deafened for 1 minute. If within 30 ft, they must also make a Reflex save or fall prone from the shockwave. The saving throw is Constitution based.

Animal Companion

Lesser skybears can be selected in place of any hippogriff animal companion you would be able to take.
