Chivilrous Mage [Multiclass]
Prerequisites: Sorcerer level 3, Knight's Challenge class featureBenefit: You can add your sorcerer levels to your knight levels for the purposes of determining the save DCs for your Knight's Challenge ability.
You gain additional hitpoints from sorcerer levels based on the number of knight levels you possess:
Knight levels | Sorcerer levels hit point bonus |
---|---|
Level 1 knight | +1 HP per sorcerer HD |
Level 2-6 knight | +2 HP per sorcerer HD |
Level 7-11 knight | +3 HP per sorcerer HD |
Level 12+ knight | +4 HP per sorcerer HD |
Note that, on average, each of these hit point bonuses is equivalent to an increased HD type. If you are using any houserules that involve HD type (such as maximum HP per HD), instead advance the sorcerer's HD type (d6, d8, d10, then d12).
You can expend spell slots to make the following Knight abilities more effective, as part of using the ability or as a free action (if it is a passive ability). Substitute X with the spell's level.
- Knight's Challenge (Fighting Challenge): Gain DR X/— against the chosen opponent and +1 to your DCs on spells against that opponent.
- Knight's Challenge (Call to Battle): The ally gains Mettle for the purposes of the second saving throw. They get a +2 bonus on saving throws against that spell or ability for X rounds.
- Armor Mastery: You can ignore arcane spell failure, when wearing armor of the type of your armor mastery (or lighter) and shields, for spells of up to level X + 2 for 5 + Charisma modifier rounds.
- Shield Ally / Improved Shield Ally: You gain 5 + 10 * X Temporary HP until the start of your next turn. You can absorb damage from spells and other effects, but your ally must still make any required saving throws against secondary effects.
Example: A 7th level sorcerer/7th level knight has +21 HP, and a base DC of 17 + Cha modifier for Knight's Challenge uses, in addition to the new options available for using spell slots to power Knight class features. Armor mastery, for instance, allows the character to sacrifice a 1st level spell slot to cast any spells of 3rd level or lower for 5 + Charisma modifier rounds. As a 7th level sorcerer, this means the character can cast any of their spells freely while wearing medium armor and using a shield.
