Solar Eaters[edit]

In the depths of space surrounding young vibrant stars exist a creature known as the solar eater (solivora limax), sometimes known as solar wind socks. They appear as slugs the size of cats with a wide open mouth ringed by three eyespots. They orbit a star, catching solar wind with their mouths and drawing energy from the collisions and the alpha particles contained within, and releasing small jets of hydrogen gas to propel themselves closer or farther from the sun. They are an alien delicacy which is prepared both cooked, and sometimes eaten live and still squirming. They have a rubbery translucent body with a thick oily flesh that is described as similar to Worcestershire sauce. Various dishes have various prices, ranging from cheap slug rounds, served in patty form, to expensive full-body displays with garnish and seasoning.

A solar eater has value if caught live and contained in a gravity-free pen, coming in as 50g per pound. Soul Eaters range from 0.25 to 18 pounds
