'''Drain Heat {{Su}}:''' Candleghasts exude a chill aura that drains heat and life from those who stray too near. Within 1 foot per HD of the candleghast, the air is noticeably chilly (one level lower than it would otherwise) and any creature within this aura suffer cold damage equal to the damage the candleghast's slam deals per twenty minutes. Given an opportunity, a candleghast will gorge on whatever life energy they can, but they only need to deal damage each day equal to their HD and can elect to not drain heat from specific creatures. Candleghasts add their drain heat damage to their slam attacks.

Combat[edit]

Candleghasts prefer to sit and wait for living creatures to come to them. They do not directly fight if they can help it, and rather simply let their chill aura slowly kill those they lure in.

Chill Aura (Su): Candleghasts exude a chill aura that drains heat and life from those who stray too near. Within 5 feet of the candleghast, the ambient temperature is one level lower than it would otherwise be, but feels one level higher. Creatures that sleep within this aura do not recover hit points from natural healing as the candleghast feeds on their life energy. This aura also causes their slam attacks to do extra cold damage (use the damage of a claw by creature size (Table 5-1 in the monster manual) to determine the cold damage dealt above diminutive size).

The range of the candleghast's chill aura increases as it grows in size- 10 ft at Tiny, 20 ft at Small, 30 ft at medium.

Spitfire (Sp): Candleghasts can use the cantrip ember at will as an attack action.

Amorphous Form (Ex): While they typically hold a candle-like form, candleghasts are as amorphous as a puddle of melted wax. They often will manifest monstrous faces and drippy arms of they have been identified as not a normal candle.

Melts in Sunlight (Ex): Candleghasts are immune to fire and will not melt at any temperature. However, they are extremely vulnerable to the light of the sun. A candleghast takes 1d6 damage each round it is exposed to direct sunlight, or equivalent. A candleghast reduced to 0 hp this way is destroyed.

Manipulate Object (Sp): Candleghasts can replicate animate object at will as a spell-like ability with caster level equal to their HD. However, unlike the spell, it can only be used at touch range with a concentration duration and can only affect objects of their size or smaller. The candleghast's body must maintain physical contact between its wax and the object and anything which would break this contact ends the effect, and they may only affect a single item at a time.

Familiar[edit]

Candleghasts may be used as familiars, in which case it has the alignment of its owner. Candleghasts give a +4 bonus on saves against Heat or Fire effects. A candleghast with a master is always trained to not drain the master's heat, but may be allowed to do so on the master's command to satisfy its dietary requirements. Familiar candleghasts cannot use Manipulate Object unless the master has Improved Familiar and an arcane caster level of 3 or higher.
