Fashioned from the heart of a calefact dragon, this ancient blade is the primal power of lava and magma condensed into a solid form. It functions as a +5 flaming burst meteoric maralchion, dealing a base damage of 3d4/18-20 slashing plus 2d6 fire with an additional +2d10 fire on a critical hit. Magmamune is a nearly black blade of a rugged, stony cast, that sears with a fierce heat, and its edge glows white hot once activated. Its grip is fashioned from magically treated salamander hide, to allow its wielder to grab the weapon without incurring harm. The weapon may be switched on or off, but even in its off mode it has the effects of a weapon fashioned from meteoric iron.
Any fire damage dealt by the blade (either directly or indirectly) bypasses resistance to fire, stemming from the primordial heat of lava itself. Immunity to fire halves the fire damage dealt by the blade, though creatures with the Fire subtype are immune. Any creature directly touching the blade of Magmamune takes its fire damage. Any creature taking fire damage from being struck directly by the Magmamune blade takes 1 point of Constitution damage for every 5 points of fire damage so taken (rounded down per attack).
The maralchion's special attack also inflicts burning.
When Magmamune is active, any creature touching its grip is immune to its heat effects, as well as to the effects of fire and lava.
Combat[edit]
Magmamune possesses the following special qualities.
Heat Aura: Magmamune itself exudes a powerful heat. Any creature finding itself within 15 feet of the blade and its wielder at the start of its turn will take 2d6 points of fire damage, though creatures with heat protection (see Protection against Heat, Sandstorm pg14), will reduce this damage by twice their amount of heat protection. Finally, against spells with the Cold descriptor, this heat aura provides the wielder any anyone within it an effective spell resistance of 15 + the wielder's character level/Hit Dice.
Any creature taking fire damage from being struck directly by the Magmamune blade takes 1 point of Constitution damage for every 5 points of fire damage so taken (rounded down per attack).
Searing Slash: As an attack action usable any time per turn as long as the he has attack actions left, the wielder of Magmamune may swing the sword in a fierce swipe to cut the very air with the intense heat of the blade. The wielder may target any creature and object within a 20-foot line that need not originate from the wielder, using individual attack rolls for each target. No target may be further than 30 feet away from the wielder, but the line may be projected in all 3 dimensions to target ground-bound as well as airborne targets. These attacks only do Magmamune's fire damage, do not count as direct attacks and do not inflict Constitution damage. They do however greatly weaken objects and structures, reducing the hardness of any wood, iron or stone structure of or unattended object by half the fire damage dealt, and are cut apart when said hardness reaches 0. Objects with an unusually high melting point (such as platinum, tungsten, adamantine or any material magically treated to withstand great heat) cannot be reduced below half hardness.
Tectonic Split: Winding up a massively powerful overhead slash, the wielder may make one attack as a standard action to strike the ground before him and split the very land asunder. A fissure is created within the solid ground that extends in a 120-foot line from the wielder, and from the fissure spouts superheated lava. Any creature making direct contact with the lava takes 10d6 points of fire damage (Reflex half), or double as much if submerged, with repeated damage at the start of every turn. The lava exudes the same heat aura as Magmamune itself, affecting any creature within 15 feet of any square coated in lava. After using this ability, the wielder must wait 2d4 rounds to use it again. Save DC for this ability is 10 + half the wielder's base attack bonus + the wielder's Strength bonus.
Lavamancy (Sp): Magnamune acts as a powerful focus for fire based magic. Any instantaneous spells with the Fire descriptor cast by its wielder have no damage cap, gain a +2 bonus to spell DC, and are enhanced with the Molten Spell metamagic at a +2 adjustment without having to expend a higher level spell slot. Even without access to magic or spells, the wielder of Magmamune is capable of releasing a molten fireball from the tip of the blade, with a range of Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./caster level), a damage output of 1d6/caster level, and an effective spell level of 7. The wielder's effective caster level for the purpose of this ability is equal to the higher of his base attack bonus and innate caster level. The molten fireball has a cooldown of 1d4+1 rounds. Save DC for this ability is based on the effective spell level of the channeled spell and the wielder's highest mental ability score.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Molten Spell, energy immunity, one spell of the Fire descriptor for every spell level from 1 to 8, transmute rock to lava, the essense of a mature or older calefact dragon, CL 15th.
Cost to Create: 95,000 gp, 7,600 EXP, 190 days.
