Diver Plate

A marriage of technology and pioneering spirit, the diver plate is an armor designed to allow a human to maneuver underwater. On land, however, it is prohibitively heavy.

If the character has some help, cut this time in half. A single character doing nothing else can help one or two adjacent characters. Two characters can't help each other don armor at the same time. The wearer must have help to don this armor. Without help, it can be donned only hastily.

A diver plate consists of a full body suit of synthetic fiber and high-strength leather, with a non-newtonian fluid layer in the suit diverting the water pressure. Various parts are protected by corrosion resistant plate to protect vital areas of body and suit. The helmet is hermetically sealed and inseperable from the suit itself, outfitted with a reinforced glass visor. Since the diver plate is so heavy, the buoyancy of an underwater environment is required to maintain any sort of maneuverability.

The diver plate is outfitted with an oxygen tank, an on board power source, and a simple thruster that allows maneuverability. The diver plate is always masterwork; price and benefits are subsumed in the above statistics.

The diver plate provides the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities:

• The thrusters give you a swim speed equal to your land speed as reduced by the armor (see Speed table, above). When not using the thrusters, you will sink to the bottom and can walk on the bottom of pools, ponds, rivers, lakes and seas like it is normal ground. You can hustle, but not run underwater. Sufficiently uneven ground will still count as difficult terrain.
• You may project light as per a bullseye lantern at will, from a light attached to the helmet right above the visor.
• You gain the effects of Powerful Build.
• Your gloves are too bulky for operating weapons with mechanical triggers unless they are especially made to be used in conjunction with a diver plate (double base price). However, you can wield one-handed and two-handed melee weapons without penalties underwater.

A standard diver plate's oxygen tank lasts for 2 hours. It may be outfitted with a special tank that holds a bound oxy-sprite. This grants indefinite oxygen but increases the price by 2,500 gp.
