Why doesn't this improve monk abilities like a tattooed monk or something? Any particular reason? It seem it would be a perfect PrC for monk and help them not suck balls. --[[User:Leziad|Leziad]] ([[User talk:Leziad|talk]]) 21:16, 24 August 2014 (UTC) | Why doesn't this improve monk abilities like a tattooed monk or something? Now in Feat Form[edit]
Was rewatching the series, and saw the exact episode that picture was from and... well, I had to make it :-D --Ghostwheel 09:02, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- That's funny; I made it in feat form first, but it got moved to Wizard-level, so I made it in prestige class form. It would be ridiculous if someone made a prestige class for Suppress Chi. --Foxwarrior 17:30, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
Balance[edit]
Took another look at this, and... well, since it's every time the character deals unarmed damage... I think this might very well easily overpower even the standard SGT :-/ Even as Monk 2 / PsyWar 4 / Chi Blocker 4, or even as a Monk 7 / Chi Blocker 3... Seems like wizard-level fits a lot more. --Ghostwheel 09:05, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- The 60% recovery chance thing is important - There's a 60% chance that a victim won't spend even one turn under the influence of attacks against which the victim has already failed to save, and which require that their wielder forgo lethal damage and the greater variety of enemies they can hurt with it. --Foxwarrior 17:39, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Can a character spontaneously recover from death? :-P --Ghostwheel 19:35, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- actually with heal being a cross class skill for psy-war and monk they cant even take this until 11th level unless they waste a feat to make heal a class skill--NameViolation 19:40, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- That said, it's ridiculously easy to gain skills as class skills with very little investment, even using WotC-only sources. --Ghostwheel 19:51, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Note that since all the class's abilities depend on dealing nonlethal damage, none of its abilities work at all on things which don't have a Constitution score (which makes a monk/this versus undead or constructs pretty much auto-lose). The death effect only affects people who have more nonlethal than their hit points, which means they've basically already lost (unless they have regen or something).
- So, quick off-the-cuff L10SGT assessment: there are two challenges where this class contributes nothing the Warrior class doesn't (shadows and hallway), and three where it contributes noticeably less than "moar damage" from rogue (most of the trolls can recover before you disable all of them, and all the while they're trying to rend you; Bebilith has many legs and horrible poison; Vrock has a good chance of a bunch of dretches). It contributes to the other encounters, but I don't see it overall contributing more than "being a rogue". You might be able to pull off some crazy superbuild since I know that's your thing, Ghost... but I'm just not seeing it.
- Gehenna, I'm not even sure it isn't Fighter-level. --Quantumboost 20:24, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
Monk?[edit]
Why doesn't this improve monk abilities like a tattooed monk or something? Any particular reason? It seem it would be a perfect PrC for monk and help them not suck balls. --Leziad (talk) 21:16, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
