This spell, known for its brutality and the agony in which its victims die, causes thorns to form inside their targets, which then burrow outwards, eventually exploding from their victims unless their bodies can stop their progress.

The targets immediately become helpless (recovery ends) in horrible agony. If they fail to recover from this condition for 2 consecutive rounds, their bodies explode outward in a spray of blood and thorns, killing them instantly. Only heal, limited wish, miracle or wish can stop this process otherwise.

Enhanced: This spell becomes a [Death] ability. Additionally, creatures affected by this spell will die after 2 rounds, regardless of whether they recover from the helplessness or not.

Diminished: Creatures become helpless (recovery ends), but do not risk death. During each round that the condition remains, creatures take 2d6 damage at the end of their turn (after the recovery roll).

Immune: No effect.
