Upon casting this spell the spellcaster's soul is protected from death. Should they die while so protected, either by hit point loss, or draining of their energy, or draining of or damage to their attributes, their body will be consumed as the spell ends and their soul will return as a [[SRD:Ghost|''ghost'']] the following round. Abilities or effects that capture the soul or spirit can prevent this.

They gain 3 ghost Special Attacks: Draining Touch, Manifestation, and one other chosen by the caster as they animate following their death.

Should the caster have any spell slots prepared or spells uncast at their time of death, those remain intact and unchanged rather than being wiped upon death as normal.

Unless destroyed, the ghost cannot be raised or resurrected. The ghost can return to life is by using their Draining Touch ability to drain a cumulative amount of Constitution equal to twice the Constitution attribute that they had prior to their death (disregarding any drain or damage). The amount of Constitution drained by the character should be tracked, as when the ghost has drained an adequate amount of Constitution then they will be destroyed and resurrect as though by True Resurrection with their now living body appearing at the same location 1d4 days later, losing the ghost template and all its benefits.

The ghost has 30 days to reanimate, otherwise their spirit will be destroyed and be unable to perform their rejuvenation ability.
