You empower an expensive 4 foot long crystal with incredible temporal energy, causing it to glow and hover in place.  Up to 5 creatures can attune themselves to this save crystal in a process which takes 8 hours.  After the creatures are attuned, their progress is saved, a snapshot in time being taken.  From that point on, if all its attuned members perish, time reverses itself and undoes all actions up until the point of last attunement.  Items, experience, damage, and location are all reverted; the only thing which transfers back from this now-alternate future is memories, possibly giving the impression to the rest of the world that they are suddenly enlightened with some spontaneous vision and knowledge.  In spite of the kept memories, experience and levels are not kept.

Every time the attuned creatures die, they respawn, but they lose 5,000 xp each in the process.  Therefore, the save crystal is a precaution and not something to rely upon.  Creatures may only be attuned to 1 save crystal at a time; a second crystal attunes them to that one and the first crystal loses attunement with them.  The creature may also willingly lose attunement with the crystal as a full-round mental action.  This allows other creatures beyond the 5 creature per crystal limit to attune and benefit from the crystal.

Creatures so attuned will continue to respawn until they run out of experience points or the crystal is destroyed.  The crystal has hardness 20 and 100 hit points per manifester level.  It is immune to all supernatural and spell-like abilities, and is all in all, very difficult to damage.  Once a crystal has been created, it cannot move and will continue to float in its position regardless of the surroundings.

Players employing a save crystal should make a copy of their character sheet at the time of attuning, so they can easily revert to previous abilities.
