You generate a shield of force in front of you in one hand, granting yourself a +2 shield bonus to AC as well as reducing all incoming damage by 1 point per two caster levels (max 10 points at 20th level).  This applies before damage reduction or resistance.  However, the spell requires one of your hands to "wield" the spell, and requires active concentration to maintain.  Concentrating on this spell is a swift or move action, and unlike most spell you may still cast (but not concentrate) on other spells while concentrating on ''focus shield''.  If you stop concentrating you do not lose the spell, but you do not gain its benefits until restart concentration as a move action.

If you concentrate as a standard action, the AC bonus rises to +4, and the reduction in damage improves to 1 point per level (max 20) during that round.
