A cross spear is a rather strange weapon, somewhere in between that of a scythe and spear. It has a vertical blade and halfway through that a horizontal one, nearly the same length as the vertical portion, with edges as sharp as the blades on a scythe. A cross spear has reach. You can strike opponents 10 feet away with it, but you can’t use it against an adjacent foe. If you use a ready action to set a cross spear against a charge, you deal double damage on a successful hit against a charging character, damage done through this can only be piercing. In addition a cross spear counts as both a scythe and a spear for purposes of feats, prestige class requirements and other such affects. Because of a cross spear’s shape, you can use it to make trip attacks. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you can drop the weapon to avoid being tripped.
