Supposedly named after its psionically talented patient zero, Xavier's disease can cripple you but give you psionic potential.  Xavier's disease is not a biological hazard, but rather a mutation or cancer due to carcinogens.  As a result, ''[[SRD:Remove Disease|remove disease]]'' does not work on this disease, but rather as a curse instead (effective caster level 10th).  Even so, immunity to disease does prevent initially acquiring this.  The disease manifests 5% of the time while suffering from any form of radiation sickness, and persists even if the radiation sickness is cured.

The disease progresses in three stages.  In the first stage, each day the victim suffers 1d6 [[Dex]] damage.  A successful save negates, and cures itself after 2 consecutive successful saves.  If you fail 2 consecutive times, or you are reduced to [[Dex]] 0, you enter stage 2.

In the second stage, you are rendered staggered (in addition to the daily [[Dex]] damage, though the damage is reduced to 1d3 each day).  However, curiously, your mind begins to awaken to an inner power.  You gain 1 power point per level while in this state, though you do not gain any powers.  At this point you must be cured magically, successful saves only negate the effects for the day.  If you fail 2 consecutive times, or are reduced to [[Dex]] 0 a second time, you enter stage 3.  If you are cured, you lose the power points.

While the first and second stages can be cured, nothing short of ''[[SRD:Limited Wish|limited wish]]'' can restore you at the third stage.  You are permanently crippled, obtaining the [[Crippled (3.5e Flaw)|crippled]] flaw without gaining a bonus feat.  On the other hand, you gain a 1st level psi-like ability 2/day of your choice (save DCs based on your highest mental ability score) and your manifester level increases by +1.  You no longer take ability damage from this disease.  If you are cured, you lose the psi-like ability and manifester level bonus.
