''A heavy cycloptic helmet which protects and amplifies eldritch knowledge, as well as divining the secrets unseen from human eyes.  It is said to be the shape of the head of some eldritch horror which warred with its own in the distant past.''

This strange triangular [[Elderein (3.5e Equipment)|elderein]] helmet is dominated by a single glaring unblinking green eye, designed to both protect and interpret the horrors of eldritch entities beyond.  It is both a normal elderein helmet and a reversed elderein helmet, protecting against madness and increasing one's effective [[Dark Insight (3.5e Variant Rule)|dark insight]] score.  However the act of putting on the helmet subjects one to obtaining a dark insight score of 0 (or increasing it by 1) the first time it is donned (DC 10 [[Will]] negates).  A dark insight score of at least 0 is required to make use of the helmet.

Beyond the benefits of elderein it also gives a bonus to Spellcraft checks equal to one's dark insight score, and access to the following abilities: At will- ''[[SRD:Detect Magic|detect magic]]''; 1/day- ''[[Whispers of Otherworlds (3.5e Spell)|whispers of otherworlds]]'' (must still pay expensive components, no focus needed).  It can determine via its ''detect magic'' ability if a spellcaster is capable of casting or knows any [[3.5e Dark Insight Spells|dark insight]] spells on its 3rd round of concentration though it doesn't reveal which ones or to what degree.

Creatures with [[Dark Insight (3.5e Variant Rule)|dark insight]] and at least 9 HD may spend 1 point of insight to gain the use of ''[[SRD:True Seeing|true seeing]]'' for 10 minutes as a standard action.
