Acquiring the power of another creature is a recurring theme in dnd, by example the [[SRD:Dragon Disciple|dragon disciple]] seek to acquire the power of dragons. The Nocturnus Initiate seek to gain the power of a vampire, the predator of the night. The process of becoming a Nocturnus Initiate require drinking the blood of an ancient vampire, which is both dangerous and draining. Slowly but surely the Nocturnus Initiate will gain more and more vampiric powers until it finally turn into the dreaded creature.
