A blade forged for a young hero in his quest to defeat a Vampire Lord, ultimately he was no hero and after his defeat the blade was discarded behind. The Dawnsword is a a ''+1 Silver Longsword'', however any attacks made against evil creatures ignore damage reduction and bypass regeneration. The Dawnsword always confirm critical threat against evil creatures.

If the blade is exposed to the blood of a [http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20021018a Vampire Lord] it become a full artifact. It loses it damage penalty for being made of silver, and due to it new hardness can now be used to bypass DR/Adamantine. In this state, if an attack with the Dawnsword is a natural 20 it will usually decapitate or slice it foe in half, granting it a x4 critical hit multiplier instead of x2 and the ability to inflict critical hit damage on objects and any corporeal creature on a Natural 20s. 

The blade was meant to grow in power, thus it can be improved like a normal magic item.
